    My Time Is Valuable Collection

Launching today, is the special edition T-shirt collection designed in collaboration with popular plus size blogger Naomi Griffiths!

Passionate about all things plus-size and keen to inspire other curvy girls, Naomi started her blog 'Diamonds n Pearls' in 2010. Her collection is being sold in white in sizes 16, 18, 20, 22/24 and 26/28.

Before you get your hands on the limited edition XL.Promodoro design, find out more about Naomi and why she decided on ‘My time is valuable’ as a slogan.

What is your background in plus size fashion? .

I began blogging in 2010 after finishing university and wasn't quite sure what I wanted my blog to be about. I've always been interested in fashion but felt limited due to my size. I would spend loads of time hunting for things to make great outfits. I soon started getting compliments from friends and family about my fashion sense so I decided to blog about it! Eventually my readership grew, and here I am now!

What do you think of the term plus size?

I really feel that the term plus size is necessary. I understand why some people don't like it, but until ALL retailers and fashion houses become completely inclusive, we need the term 'Plus Size' to facilitate our shopping experience. There's no point in me looking around a shop or online store unless I know it definitely caters to my size. If retailers use the term 'plus size' I can usually be sure that I'm welcome to shop there. Just as sections like 'Tall' 'Petite' or 'Maternity' are there to make everyone’s shopping experience that little bit easier, so is ‘Plus Size’.  And my god, we need that as plus size shoppers - it's hard enough even with the label!

Why did you want to create this collection?

I've got a really varied sense of style and over the years it has definitely evolved. I used to live in cute little dresses but over the past 18 months I'm more likely to be found in a pair of jeans, trainers, some statement jewellery and if I could find one, a cool slogan tee! Some of the tees out there on the market for plus size woman are awesome but others are still quite 'twee'. I wanted to add a cool item to the options out there in plus size fashion - one that I could rock with my jeans and my trainers. Or even with a classy midi skirt and heels and I feel like this is it!

What does the 'my time is valuable' message mean to you?

Probably not what you think. Yes, my time is valuable - but it goes a little deeper than that. For me it means life. It means going out there and enjoying everything life gives you without worry, without fear of wearing a swimsuit on a beach and missing that opportunity because you're worried about what someone may say. When I was younger I lacked confidence because of my size and it held me back from doing things, wearing things and going places. Now I know that my time and my life is far too valuable to miss out on those moments!

    What is your favourite colour?

Oh, this is tough! I love yellow because it's so vibrant and happy. But I also love the classic black and white combination. I always get told that I look good in red so I wear that a lot too!

What is your favourite fashion trend right now?

I love floaty Bardot off-the-shoulder tops. They are perfect for summer and creating 70's boho vibes. I'm also a big fan of slouchy, over sized jumpsuits. Overall though, I'm not much of a trend follower. I prefer classic looks and wardrobe staples: a good pair of jeans, a classic black dress and a perfect cool t-shirt. I love items that live with you forever. Items that can be worked and reworked time and time again.

What is a fun fact about you?

It's a bit of a naughty one but I can actually hold a bottle of champagne between my boobs and drink it! Talented, I know!

Where do you want to be in 10 years?

My dream is to be writing for my blog full time. And of course doing it from a gorgeous place by the sea, with a whole range of different T-shirt designs under my belt!

    6 Steps To A Low-Calorie BBQ & Recipe

It’s BBQ season, hurrah! People everywhere are gathering in their backyards with good food, good friends and good spirits. An irresistible mix! And while your excitement is boiling over, you might be secretly worried about all of those burger calories (delicious burger calories). But don’t fear, you can enjoy tasty, tempting food without spoiling the hard work you have been doing to eat well. Just follow these 6 simple steps!

    6 Steps To A Low-Calorie BBQ

    1. Drop the carbs

You can enjoy a burger patty or some grilled chicken just as much without the bread. With pair is with some mushrooms or vegetables and voila! Just as delicious but minus the carbs!

    2. Fill half of your plate with salad

By putting more salad and less meat on your plate, you will end up eating fewer calories.

    3. Be sauce savvy

It's easy for extra calories in condiments to sabotage your diet so be saucy savvy. Avoid ketchup and BBQ sauce as they’re high in sugar and mayonnaise as it’s high in fat. Instead, try mustard, hot sauce or extra virgin olive oil for healthier alternatives.

    4. Avoid Fizzy Drinks

Popular fizzy drinks like Coke and 7UP are full of sugar and full of calories. Water is the healthiest option but if you can’t resist (it is a BBQ after all), reach for a diet coke with 0 calories. And word on the street is the new Coke Zero actually tastes just like real Coke. Easy choice then!

    5. Alcohol Awareness

It’s easy to get carried away with Gin and Tonics with the sunshine spilling in and the heat lasting into the evening. But alcohol including spirits, beer and wine contains huge amounts of calories - almost the same amount per gram as real fat. So watch your glasses and whenever possible opt for low calories options, like Gin and Slimline Tonics or try these low calories cocktails.

    6. Fruit For All!

When you’re at a BBQs you want food you can easily pick up and eat with your hands. Having a fruit platter lying around will mean you fill up on healthy nibbles rather than more fattening snacks like crisps.

    Homemade Burgers Recipe

In the mood for a BBQ tonight? Check out our favourite low-calorie BBQ recipe here. We like this recipe because it’s delicious and totally guilt-free. And because it’s so simple, kids can even join in.

Prep time 20 mins, cooking time 10 mins

    • 500g good quality beef mince
    • Pinch of oregano
    • 1 tsp salt
    • Pinch of black pepper
    • Handful of breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg, lightly beaten

    To serve:

    • 1 iceberg lettuce
    • 4 medium tomatoes
    • Pickles (optional)

    1. Place all of the burger ingredients in a large bowl and mix together or whizz all the ingredients in a food processor until the mixture starts holding together.
    2. Shape the burgers into round flat discs with wetted hands. To get perfectly round shapes, press the mixture into a metal pastry cutter. Don't over-handle the burgers or they'll be tough and dry when cooked.
    3. Place the burgers on the barbeque or in a frying pan and cook until they're done all the way through and there's no pinkness in the middle. To check this, press down the top of a burger with a fish slice - if there are pink juices oozing out, then cook for a few more minutes.
    4. Serve with lettuce and sliced tomato.

The Men's Style Guide: How To Wear a Polo

Need some style advice for jazzing up your summer wardrobe? Get inside the head of one of the most fashionable bigger men out there and owner of fashion site Extra Inches to find out how he turns simple polos into stylish looks.

Let’s talk about the polo shirt. I know what you’re thinking - it’s not really the most trendy thing out there. But it’s a real classic that offers the perfect solution when a T-shirt is too casual and a shirt is too smart. During the summer, polos are the perfect middle ground.

    What’s Trending

Polos with flower prints, dots and other patterns are definitely trending this season. Combined with a plain pair of jeans or denim shorts, you’ll be looking very fashionable right now. But let’s not forget the classic and basic polo, the polo in its purest and oldest form. It might seem boring at first, but if you wear it right, you can definitely pull it off and create a great summer look. And fortunately, plain polo shirts are one of the easiest products to buy if you’re shopping in the XL men’s department.

    Edgy Vibes

For a look that leans towards the smart and casual, wear a white polo shirt tucked into dark jeans. Add a smart belt and elegant shoes and you’re done.

For a more edgy vibe, combine the polo with chinos, leave the top untucked and add a pair of braces that loosely hang down. On goes the bow tie and to top it all off, add a flat cap. I like to call it the ‘grandad city style’. Because it is quirky and simple at the same time, you will rarely be overdressed or underdressed in this outfit.

    Cool Camo

My second polo look is a bit more street and a bit more cool. I match a grey polo shirt with washed out camouflage shorts, Birkenstocks for shoes and one of my beloved Porkpie hats. The outfit works well for strolling around the city in the summer, hanging out on holiday or even hitting beach clubs in the evening.

    Chilled Out

My final look doesn’t take much styling effort at all. For the chilled out look, choose a polo shirt that has a slight edge (this one has a design around the buttons). This will make your whole outfit look more laid back and playful. Wear it with denim shorts, a baseball cap and sporty trainers. This look is cool, comfortable and casual. To make it look like a proper style (rather than just some pieces you have pulled off your shelves), make sure the colours of your polo design, cap and shoes match. It’s the little things that make your whole look work.

I usually prefer to have buttons on my polo done up but because the funky pattern is in that area, I have left them open on this occasion - and I think it works.

In a nutshell, polo shirts are not necessarily boring items for the middle class. With a few tricks (bow tie here and nice hat there) they can be the foundation of some really great summer looks for lots of different occasions.

New ‘Love Your Shape’ Polos In Store Now!

Our new body positive collection called 'Love Your Shape' is available in store now! The range of polo shirts was designed in collaboration with Helena Nacca, to promote body confidence. The Italian plus size model, entrepreneur and fashionista was a presenter at The Curvy Convention this year. Helena is also an ambassador of the Body Confidence Revolution and her aim is to make a difference to the plus size community by bringing fashion into their world.

    The Polos

So what do the tops look like? The polos used for this range are our classic polos, available in both navy and white. They come with pink and purple plackets with heart shaped designs and the words ‘Love Your Shape’ printed between the buttons. The polos themselves are of very high quality and are made from extra-durable cotton and piqué fabric for a soft, comfortable feel and long-lasting fit. You’re sure to look fashionable and feel comfortable when wearing them.

    The Message Behind The Collection

The message behind Love Your Shape is empowering women to feel good about themselves regardless of size. This resonates within the Body Confidence Revolution designed to counterbalance society’s ideals of what beauty is. We believe that we should be harnessing the power of the online world as a platform to make a radical change. Body confidence is so important for women of all sizes, not just the size 0’s. As Leyah Shanks, founder of the Body Positive Revolution herself said, ”Everyone has the basic human right to be proud of their body.”

The polos are available in sizes 16-18, 20-22 and 24-26. Plus size people should have the same options for good quality clothes as any other person would. The majority of high street stores in the UK often only stock up to a size 18 - and even then it can be difficult to actually find items in this size. We aim to provide stylish clothes for the shapes and sizes that are often ignored.

    Now Online!

So what are you waiting for? Be a part of the movement and get your own Love Your Shape polo in navy or white. You can look stylish whilst supporting a good cause at the same time.

The Secret To Finding The Perfect Fit For Your Shape

Here at XL.Promodoro we know that everybody is different. There are some things that everyone will agree on though. For example, the importance of T-shirts being made from high quality materials, so they are soft on the skin and can endure endless journeys through the washing - which is why our T-shirts are made from only the best raw materials. But when it comes to finding your perfect fit, ‘perfect’ varies from person to person, because as we mentioned, every body is different.

And It’s not just about the shape of your hips or the width of your thighs or the bulge of your belly, but also about the person inside. You might find a pear shaped lady who loves figure hugging tops to show off her womanly curves but an oval shaped man who enjoys a looser fit to feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Because people come in all shapes and sizes and have all sorts of different ideas of what kind of top is ‘perfect’ for the look they are trying to achieve, we created a Bodyshape Guide, for shapely men and curvy women.

The XL.Promodoro Bodyshape Guide takes you through a step by step process to figure out what body shape group you belong to so you can begin to better understand your body. Once you can identify with a body type, you then need to decide what kind of fit you prefer to wear. Clothes are all about empowering you to feel your best, look your best and, as a result, be the best version of yourself. So it’s important to find clothes that will give you the confidence to eXceL.

Based on your body type and the desired fit your are after, the Bodyshape Guide will suggest products from our store which will help you achieve your perfect look. Whether you are pear, strawberry, hourglass, straight or apple shaped, XL.Promodoro will have something for you!
